BIOGRAPHY
Maj Jurisevic, a violinist, pedagogue, and conductor from Ljubljana, Slovenia, began his musical studies at the age of six. Since then, he has regularly participated in national and international competitions and has given solo performances across Europe and China.
He has been a prize-winner in numerous international competitions, including Concorso Europeo “Alfredo e Vanda Marcosig” (Italy), Euritmia (Italy), Rudolf Matz (Croatia), Talents for Europe (Slovakia), and the Poreč Violin Competition (Croatia). He has won first prizes at Ars Nova (Italy), the Fanny Mendelssohn International Competition, the Melbourne Festival Competition (China), the Shenzhen String Competition (China), the 11th Hong Kong International Violin Competition (China), the Youth Music Competition in Chamber Music (China), the Slovenia TEMSIG Competition, and the Music Competition Valletta (Malta).
Maj was awarded a Chinese Government Scholarship for Arts and earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Violin Performance at the College of Chinese and ASEAN Arts in Chengdu, studying with Professor Tymur Melnyk and Professor Isaac Ormaza Vera. He later completed an additional Master’s degree at the Zurich University of the Arts under the guidance of Sergey Malov, where he received the prestigious Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship, granted to the highest-achieving scholars in Switzerland.
He has received artistic impulses from renowned violinists including Boris Garlitsky, Asja Kushnir, Ilya Gringolts, Andrey Baranov, Michael Frischenschlager, Helfried Fister, Wonji Kim Ozim, Vladimir Ivanov, Antje Weithaas, Byol Kang, Ioana Cristina Goicea, and Igor Ozim. Alongside his performing career, Maj Jurisevic is a dedicated and passionate teacher and a conductor.
